The Sustainable Ocean Alliance (SOA) is a global organization dedicated to empowering young leaders and fostering innovative solutions to protect and restore the health of our ocean. Through our network of Hubs, we engage communities around the world in impactful conservation efforts.
THE POSITION
SOA is seeking an experienced and strategic leader to join its team as Associate Director, Global Hub Network. The Associate Director will be pivotal in growing the impact of SOA’s vibrant global network of Hubs by empowering young leaders, supporting a team of Regional Representatives, and driving impactful initiatives that contribute to ocean conservation and restoration efforts.
This position reports to the Head of Global Community.
RESPONSIBILITIES
Hub Network Leadership & Development
- Lead the strategic development of the Hubs Network in alignment with SOA’s overarching mission and strategy.
- Assess, develop, and implement standardized legal and procedural support structures to ensure global hub compliance and increased hub effectiveness.
- Improve the regional funding application, distribution, and evaluation processes to better support the funding of Hub projects.
- Build and manage high-level external partnerships that advance the impact and sustainability of the Hub Network.
- Design and implement new programming as needed for Hub Network growth and engagement to build on synergies and optimize collective impact.
- Set up new Hub Network regions by defining regional strategy and onboarding new Regional Representatives
Team Leadership & Regional Representative Management
- Serve as the primary point of contact for Regional Representatives, providing strategic guidance, mentorship, and capacity building opportunities to ensure Regional Representatives have the resources and tools to effectively establish and manage regional Hubs.
- Foster a collaborative environment for Regional Representatives and Hubs by promoting cross-regional knowledge sharing, idea exchange, and the adoption of best practices, while facilitating the sharing of success stories, challenges, and innovative solutions.
Strategic Planning & Program Impact
- Translate strategy into operational plans that include global and regional priorities, team member goals and KPIs, programmatic targets, and execution processes.
- Identify emerging opportunities and challenges within the global network and provide data-driven recommendations to inform Hub Network strategy.
- Regularly report on Hub performance, achievements, strategic initiatives, and impact metrics to inform decision-making at the executive level.
- Develop high-level reports and presentations for SOA leadership, funders, and stakeholders, demonstrating the impact of the Hub Network.
Cross Teams & Programs Collaboration
- Proactively identify and maintain opportunities to collaborate and coordinate effectively across Regional Representatives and other SOA teams to mutually support intersectional programmatic efforts: data collection, grants distribution, policy initiatives, marketing needs and impact storytelling, digital community engagement, youth leadership events and programming, mentor community, and global events.
QUALIFICATIONS
- Bachelor's degree in a relevant field (advanced degree is preferred).
- Minimum 8-10 years of experience
- Proven experience in managing large international programs and teams.
- Strong leadership, interpersonal, cross-cultural skills and experience, with the ability to guide and support young leaders from diverse cultural backgrounds in multiple international contexts.
- Exceptional organizational skills, capable of advancing multiple projects simultaneously.
- Effective communication skills, both written and verbal.
- Strategic thinker who is able to see and guide at both the big picture and detailed level.
- Ability to create efficient, adoptable, effective systems, processes, supports, and resources. Ability to set up and operate systems and processes within project management, data, and digital community platforms.
- A genuine interest in ocean conservation and commitment to making a positive impact.
- Willing and able to travel domestically and internationally to support Hub activities and events.
- Willing and able to work flexible hours to accommodate global time zones.

- Regular travel may be required to support Hub activities and events.
- Flexible work hours may be necessary to accommodate global time zones.
- Experience in environmental conservation is preferred
- Language skills from SOA regions (e.g. Spanish, Portuguese, French, Swahili) are advantageous.
- This role is based in San Francisco, CA.

SALARY
$100,000 - $140,000
